About The Urbanist
Welcome to The Urbanist — a space for critical conversations about everything that makes Harare what it is today. Let's explore the social, environmental, economic and political fabric of the city.
For the most part, as city dwellers, we don’t question what we do each day. Neither do we analyse the spaces in-between our lives.
What makes these spaces — places?
Cities have existed for centuries because humans have valued the collective — social gains of shared resources. Cities also facilitate convenience. Without questioning how we live, this convenience may well shape our futures. This could over time make our cities unliveable.
For cities to be liveable, they should allow for opportunities of connection to people from diverse backgrounds, be accessible, sustainable and equitable — for everyone.
Harare is not in its best form. This platform is designed to spark conversations to progressively rethink how we can build back better to create liveable places that foster social cohesion, provide inclusive growth, and renew our love for our city.
